Some mid-season reference material for ABL Fantasy players.
This week your faithful ABL Fantasy number-cruncher went to too many Christmas parties and lugged a pack around the Blue Mountains National Park, so you’ll have to tell me the cool and funny stuff that happened at the ballparks, because I had an accidental break from baseball.
Our best fantasy bat this weekend was Rhys Hoskins. And the box score looks like it would have been great fun to watch him play this weekend.
Our best fantasy pitcher was Brian Grening. 8 of us picked that he would be on fire and with something to prove this week. And were also willing to spend the Fantasy points on him.
Our winners this week with huge scores (and all on budget) were:
- Rob Trims’ Dropkick Murphys, 238 points
- Boris’ Tunkin Donuts, 227 points
- Gary Nilsson’s Gabsters, 198 points
Swap Boris and Rob and you have the current first and second in the full-season fantasy comp. Steve Smith’s Royboys are just 4 points in front of Gary Nilsson’s Gabsters in third.
In the short season fantasy comp, Crash Davis’ Visalia Rawhide are sneaking out in front of the many-flavours-of-zebra (and apparently puppies as well). Mac’s Thunderbox are cruising in third.

Brian Grening got lit up. The Blue Sox swept the Bandits. Perth lost a game to Melbourne 14-0. Cats and dogs got along together. Really fun weekend all around the ballparks.

It was another fun week in the ABL with some great performances.
Best fantasy pitcher – Jason Jarvis of the Brisbane Bandits with 29 points.
Best fantasy bat – Masato Fukae of the Melbourne Aces with 27 points. (And congrats to you folk who picked him, a 1-point bargain!)
This weeks winner and returning to the top of the full-season leaderboard – BorisABLbuzz’s Tunkin Donuts with 191 points.
Variations on the theme of zebra turned in another great performance with this week’s team “KEVIN KEIRMAIER OMG OMG OMG” and has pulled two points clear of Crash Davis’s Visalia Rawhide in the short-season comp.
Best new player – Russenal14 on 159 points, with Eoz close behind on 154 points.
Best soldiering-on-in-the-face-of-adversity – Ethan Hall beating out the hiccups to sing a solid national anthem in Adelaide.
The rain-outs in Sydney meant that players on the Blue Sox and the Bite had half the opportunities to score points as the rest of the league and our top scores this week are correspondingly a little lower.
Round 4 winner – Steve Smith’s Royboys on 159 points.
The unexpected has occurred and Steve Smith’s Royboys have bumped Boris’s Tunkin Donuts out of first place in the full-season competition. Oh it’s on, baby. It’s ALL on.
Short-season average comp has Crash Davis’s Visalia Rawhide 1 point in front of zzzzzzzzebras’ team-name-that-changes-every-week-but-this-week-was “Golden Boyz”.
Best new player – Shorty’s The Winfield Seagulls.
Best Fantasy Pitcher – Steve Kent, who threw a crazy 13 strikeouts in 7 innings (full-game shut-out) on his way to 40 points.
Best Fantasy Bat – Jack Murphy’s back. 16 points.
Best manager theatrics – Jason Pospishil’s line-drawing, hat-throwing, hat-kicking, base-hurling 5 minutes of glory. Honestly, it’s going to take turning into a werewolf to beat this one. Pops, we salute you.
